The 31-year-old is back at the club's £200m Etihad Campus for a fitness assessment, while Wilfried Bony is also set to begin training for the first time since his £28m move
Yaya Toure has returned to Manchester City's training complex following Cote d'Ivoire's victory at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The midfielder has not taken part in training on Thursday morning but is at City's Etihad Campus for an initial fitness assessment.
Following their FA Cup fourth-round exit at the hands of Middlesbrough last month, City do not have a fixture this weekend and are back in action against Newcastle United on February 21 before facing Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie three days later.
City remain seven points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea after Wednesday night’s 4-1 victory over Stoke City - their only win in Toure’s six-game absence.
Wilfried Bony is also set to begin training with City for the first time since his €35 million move from Swansea City in January.
