Fresh from winning the Ballon d'Or last month, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has now been nominated for the Laureus Athlete of the Year award.
The 30-year-old faces competition from Australian Open winner and world No.1 tennis star Novak Djokovic, Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, golf ace Rory Mcllroy, MotoGP star Marc Marquez and French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie for the prize.
Ronaldo's Madrid team-mate James Rodriguez is a leading contender to land the Newcomer of the Year trophy and will battle it out with Bayern Munich and Germany attacker Mario Gotze, US Open champion Marin Cilic, Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo and Switzerland's Davis Cup team.
Former Argentina striker Diego Milito features in the Best Return category following his recovery from a serious knee injury to star for Racing Club in his homeland and there is also a nomination for Sassulo and Italy defender Francesco Acerbi, who is a notable inclusion having twice beaten cancer before resuming his playing career.
The Laureus World Sport Awards will be held in Shanghai on April 15.
