Mourinho: Arsenal are in title race

The Chelsea boss is wary of the threat emanating from north London after the Gunners closed to within a point of Manchester City after victory over West Ham

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho could not resist a dig at Arsenal following Sunday's 1-1 draw with Southampton but claims Arsene Wenger's men are still in with a chance of claiming the title.

The Blues extended their lead at the top of the table to six points at Stamford Bridge with Diego Costa opening the scoring before a Dusan Tadic penalty gave the Saints a share of the spoils.

The result leaves the Gunners seven points behind the leaders, having played a game more, but when asked if Arsenal could win the league Mourinho insisted they are contenders.

"Of course. Seven points behind Chelsea and one less match to play. Our position is better than them but I think so. More teams are in it," he told reporters.

When asked if Arsenal were a bigger threat than second-placed Manchester City due to their current form Mourinho replied: "What momentum? 3-1 against Monaco? Or 3-0 against West Ham? Depends on the momentum."

Despite seeing his side denied victory yet again after taking the lead, Mourinho insisted the draw was a good result for his side.

"We started well but the penalty changed the rest of the first half. We stopped playing and made some mistakes," he added.

"When Ramires came on we killed their counter attack and had complete control of the game.

"We had a lead of five points and now we have a lead of six points with one less game to play. I'm not happy with the result but I'm happy with the situation, the six-point lead."
